Mauritania-Senegal border

Mauritania-Senegal border After previous problems at Moroccan border I decided to get somebody who speaks French to help me go through the borders and do the paperwork for me. Cost me around 30 euros but I saved a lot of time and nerves:) There were no problems at Mauritania border and then you actually have to get on the boat and cross the river to get to the Senegal site, which was quite cool:) Senegal has a law that you cant bring a car through land border if its older than 8 years, unless you pay a 250 euros fee for passavant. They are trying to lower the CO2 levels in Dakar and West Africa is considered as a dumping ground for end of life cars from Europe. Now this would work in a very developed country but Senegal has an average salary of $170 and cars are usually around 20 years old, so this is just borderline stupid as its much harder for Senegalese to get a better car. Now, even though they require you to have the passavant they dont provide it at the border, which just doesnt make any sense. I had to find a guy who would call the agency to issue it. I run out of euros and couldnt pay in dollars or with a card, so had to take 18km taxi ride to nearest cash machine and then come back to border:) Overall the border crossing took 5 hours and it was quite costly, with a lot of scammers. I was afraid that I will mostly have problems because my car was filled with books and sets, but it was ok and I didnt have to pay and custom fees, huge thanks to Nadezhda Marochkina from Senegal chess federation for the papers:)
